5 Tips for Packing for a Trip

By Nicole Hickoff-Publisher Macaroni KID Williamsport July 27, 2023

Are you getting ready for a vacation or trip?

Do you dread packing your vehicle?

Take Macaroni KID Williamsport's tips for loading your vehicle efficiently!

We always clean our car the day before we leave.  It helps to clean out those crumbs and remove the car seats. We like having a clean car to load plus we get a chance to get those darn car seats cleaned!

When I load our vehicle I like to utilize ALL the space that we have.  I even use the space that my spare tire is housed.  It gives you extra room for a few of those smaller items.  Also, don't forget under the seats and even (depending on model of your vehicle) the space behind the back seats.

If you don't have a few water proof bags, you should invest in at least two!  These are great for when you run out of room in your vehicle and need to put something on your roof.  We typically put the sand toys and other odds and ends in those bags.  Then we place them on the roof and strap down.

Another great tip is to utilize your roof and/or roof rack.  (Note: this is only if you have a way to tie down something.)  We put our water proof bags on the roof between our cross bars and then secure them with binder straps.  If you don't have a roof rack, you can use a hitch hauler (if you vehicle has a trailer hitch).

Our biggest tip is to load your vehicle the day before you leave.  This is helpful because you have plenty of time to figure out the best way  to get ALL your stuff to fit.  We also like to do this so we aren't rushing in the morning (we like to get on the road as early as possible).
