Common Threads Consignment Sale

10th Anniversary Event

By Nicole Hickoff-Publisher Macaroni Kid Williamsport April 1, 2024

Common Threads Consignment Sale is a GREAT event that supports Lewisburg and the surrounding areas!  It happens twice a year, and you DON'T want to miss it.  It begins this Thursday and runs till Saturday at the Miller Center in Lewisburg.

What is Common Threads?

Common Threads is an opportunity to serve families by providing them with reasonably priced, excellent quality children's clothing and other countless items that children need as they grow.  At this sale, you will find apparel, footwear, toys, books, baby equipment, and much more!

About Common Threads:

Chrissy started Common Threads with around 25 consignors.  She now has 300 consigners and the amount of items available has grown from a couple thousand to well over 45,000 (this changes at each sale)!  Chrissy began Common Threads as a way to serve families by providing reasonably priced, excellent quality children's apparel and other paraphernalia that children need as they grow. In addition, they hope to encourage mothers to rear the next generation by helping to supplement incomes by providing an outlet to sell pre-owned children's things.

Also, Common Threads is excited to help the community with the items that are donated. For each sale, Common Threads consignors give hundreds of items to local clothing banks after the sale. Common Threads has partnered with the Manna Outreach and Lewisburg Clothing Sharing Program and DWELL orphan care in the past.  This Spring they are donating all items left to the Union County Giving Closet.  The Union County Giving Closet is a nonprofit organization located at 18 Market Street in Lewisburg.  They provide new and gently used clothing for children ages newborn to 18 years old.  The families of these children are enrolled in the Union County Food Bank.

Common Threads give moms in the community the opportunity to sell their children's things by participating in Common Threads' seasonal consignment sale.  As they come together to sell, they grow a tremendous kids' store right in Lewisburg.  The store is open ONLY for 3 days in the spring and fall.  Typically, they have 45,000+ items ranging from preemie to big kid sizes, baby equipment, toys, books, maternity, women's boutique, and more.

The opportunity to shop great quality at a discount at Common Threads has become a highly anticipated event in the community.  Common Threads also donates thousands of items after each sale to local charities.

 My experience:

I have been a consignor for over 3 years and I am never disappointed.  There are many perks to being a consignor.  My family looks forward to this sale as a way to clean out the kids clothes and toys!  If you haven't consigned with Common Threads, I highly recommend it!  You won't be disappointed.  At the Williamsport Sale, I made over $400.00 and sold 157 items of my 207!  I only had 50 items that didn't sell and over half of that was my women's clothes.  If you have children's clothes, books, toys, shoes, etc. you should look at selling at their next event in the Fall.   Over the past 3 years, I have invited several friends to become a consignor. They are always so happy with the process and are blown away with how much of their items sell.

As a consignor, I get to shop the sale the day before.  I am always blown away with the quality of items that are sold at this event and how much money I save.  I shopped their Montoursville event and was able to find great deals on clothes and toys.  My children were so excited for their "new to them" toys!  I spent only $50.00 and got 12 items.  Everything I bought was under $5.00 and some had the original tag on them.  There is so much to this sale besides kids' clothes and toys.  There are books, games, women's clothes, sporting good items, and more!

How it all started:

"Common Threads started in 2012 when a dear friend of mine suggested I start a sale in my area. "Too busy," I said - 4 kids, homeschooling, and an active life. However, the idea wouldn't let me alone. So here we are, growing with each sale. I feel so blessed to work with so many awesome women through this neat avenue! Join us and see if it isn't fun and profitable!!" ~Chrissy

Chrissy credits her family as being a BIG part of why this event is such a success.  Without the help of her husband, Lyle, her kids, and Team Thread, this event wouldn't happen.

"Lyle is the one who builds the racks, manages and does set up, plus he does all the technical stuff (making sure every device operates seamlessly). He’s amazing and we make a great team." ~ChrissyHer oldest son enjoys managing setup and tear down, and her oldest daughter helps her with sign design, Facebook posts, and ideas.  Chrissy's younger son helps to run checkout and helps with tear down and setup-the big jobs.  Her son sometime enlists the help of a friend or two.  Her youngest daughter helps with odd jobs and errands.  She also helps organize the hangers and enjoys shopping still!  So it’s a family business that has grown over the last 10 years.

Chrissy has several AMAZING friends that help the week of the sale and she couldn’t do it without them.  Plus Team Thread, a group of women who help with setup and running of the sale.

Common Threads is a great place to shop for all your children's needs!  It is a family business and wouldn't be as successful without the help of Chrissy's family and the communities she serves.

Looking to participate in the next sale?  Join the Common Threads Email List or Facebook Page to hear about the NEXT event!  When you consign with Common Threads,  you will keep 65% of the selling price of your item. Since you price your own items, the amount of money you make is based on how much and what you sell. Plus, if you sign up to work the event, you get a bigger commission and you get to shop the presale!  How AMAZING is that? Plus, you get that GOOD feeling of helping others and supporting our communities!

Common Threads also welcomes vendors!  Want more information about being a vendor at the next sale, click here!  If you have a direct sales business or are an entrepreneur and would like to advertise your business to hundreds of women, you might want to consider becoming a vendor at Common Threads!  Be sure to check out Common Threads Facebook Page!
