Ready Rosie Free to All Lycoming County Families

Short, weekly videos help families teach school readiness to their young learners

March 16, 2018

ReadyRosie is a RESEARCH-BASED parenting curriculum that builds on parents’ knowledge. ReadyRosie harnesses the power of video and mobile technology to empower families and schools to work together to promote SCHOOL READINESS--and now it is available for free in Lycoming County, thanks to the hardwork of many dedicated individuals in our community. Anyone living in Lycoming County with a child in their life from Birth through Third Grade can register by going to readyrosie.com/register on their computer, tablet or smart phone and putting in their zip code.

The Lycoming County Commissioners, in collaboration with the Lycoming County Early Learning Team (LCELT) have recently provided the funding to give access to ‘Ready Rosie’ for all families residing in Lycoming County. Parents, Grandparents, Aunts, Uncles, Child Care Providers and friends of children from Birth through 3rd Grade can subscribe for free to receive weekly, short (2 minute) videos called a “modeled moment” to their email or cell phone.

‘Ready Rosie’ (and ‘Ready Baby’) videos provide simple ideas that real families in real environments can do to connect fun activities with learning opportunities. There are different modeled moments for different age groups and they are available in both English and Spanish. In addition to receiving a short video each week, those registered will also have access to an entire library of modeled moments concentrating on various aspects of child development and learning.

The LCELT, (made up of representatives from Child Care Programs, School Districts, Head Start, Early Head Start, Early Intervention, Nurse Family Partnerships, PA Department of Health, parents, and others) is grateful to the Lycoming County Commissioners for their support in this initiative.

They say, “Everything a child experiences is a potential learning opportunity and a chance to build essential connections it that child’s brain. Whether it is putting on shoes, going through the produce aisle at the grocery store, or waiting for the bus, these videos model for parent’s simple things they can do every day to bring out the inner genius in their child.”

The LCELT pursued the funding for ‘Ready Rosie’ because they recognize that the early years are learning years and parents are a child’s first and most important teacher. Using the power of mobile technology to connect with the families of 0-9 year old children in our communities, we want to unlock the potential of our youngest citizens by unlocking the potential of their parents or caregivers.
